Site Update October

It has been a busy few months since we received planning permission in the Spring. Twenty-two of the forty planning conditions must be complied with before building can commence. The development team have been working with Torridge District Council and Devon County Council to complete these conditions. All sides have been working together very positively and we expect all the conditions to be discharged in the next few weeks.

The time taken to comply with the conditions have given the Academy an opportunity to further refine and improve the building design. The learning spaces for Stretch and Challenge have been enhanced to further support our cross-subject approach. In addition, we have extended the sixth form area with additional study and social areas. The Design and Technology workshop has been reviewed and now provides a greater focus on the skills our students will need in the modern workplace.

The programme remains on schedule for completion and final handover in May 2018. Staff and students will begin visiting and getting used to the building in the two months prior to handover. All at the Academy will then have another half-term to ensure there are no snags before the start of the 2018/19 Academic year. The contractors, Willmott Dixon, will hold a number of open days at the site through the build. We will let you know of these dates as soon as we receive them.

In the coming weeks to Christmas the development team will be completing the pre-start planning conditions. Before Christmas, mobilisation will start on site with the first works being highways and the landscaping for the school building.

We will keep you regularly informed of progress of the development.
