From the Ground Floor Up

The sub-structure blockwork walls have now commenced.  These walls are built off the foundations, with the internal skin designed to support the edge of the ground floor concrete slab, and the outer skin forming the base of the external brickwork walls.  The bolts have been cast into the concrete foundation to which one of the structural steel columns will be bolted down to.

Once the sub-structure blockwork is complete, the area between is then backfilled with compacted stone and covered with a layer of sand (known as blinding).
After the Damp Proof Membrane and steel reinforcement was added the first section of the ground floor concrete slab was poured on Monday.  The concrete was placed using a concrete pump.  This was the first concrete pour of four to complete the slab.
