From the Heart

The second of our two open evenings for Years 5 and 6 was packed with curious pupils and parents who came to see what we are about.  The Hall was so full extra chairs had to be found as they gathered to listen to Principal Kelly talk about our unique child centred approach to education. As befits our approach to learning he put the audience through their paces as he illustrated how perception and challenging the way we approach a project makes all the difference.

The prospective parents also got to ask questions on a one to one basis as they explored the current site and met the teaching and support staff.  As usual the Science Lab was the most popular place to be as our students led a multitude of experiments and challenges. Prospective students were greeted with the question every child wants to hear; “Do you want to come and burn stuff?” before going on to watch a heart dissection and have a go at an electrical experiment.

Music and Art gave plenty of opportunities to have some hands on fun and in Maths our students helped measure the height and arm length of the visitors to determine whether they most resembled monkeys or kangaroos.

We hope we sent them all away with more questions brimming in their heads than answers as we try to do with all of our students.
