Life Skills

The Extra-Curricular sessions every Friday afternoon are always hugely popular with the students who choose from a wide variety of activities which change every term.  The offerings this term included Japanese, Debating, American Flag Football, Community Volunteering, Choir, Beach Clean, Knitting, Strictly Come Dancing, Surfing and Cooking.
These sessions are an important part of the vision of Route 39 as they are teaching life skills which may open further career options to students, they offer an opportunity to give back to the community and, because they are open to all ages and abilities across the school, they increase the bonds between students that give us our family feel.
Cooking club has been a popular choice across the board this term and with STEM teacher Mr Johnson in charge  he can add a extra scientific dimension to it.
Many of the participants are taking GCSE PE and are keen to expand their knowledge of nutrition and Food Technology but, as Pizza was on the menu last week, many are also just there to have fun with their friends and enjoy the results of their labour!
